The UAE's hot climate makes air conditioning essential throughout much of the year. While split and window air conditioners remain popular, portable air conditioners offer a flexible alternative for people who need cooling without installing a permanent AC system. They can be moved between rooms and are particularly useful for bedrooms, offices, rented apartments, temporary spaces, and smaller rooms.
Among the brands available in the UAE market, Hisense, Nobel, Super General, Admiral, and Gree are worth considering. Each offers different combinations of cooling capacity, portability, convenience, and features. Here is a closer look at these five options.
1. Hisense Portable Air Conditioner – Convenient & Flexible Cooling
Hisense is a popular choice for consumers looking for a portable AC that combines cooling with convenient everyday features. Hisense's Portable-G range is designed as a multi-function appliance, offering air conditioning, fan, and dehumidification functions. The manufacturer also highlights fast cooling, strong dehumidification, a 24-hour timer, easy installation, and four caster wheels for mobility.
Another attractive feature is the auto-evaporative system, which is designed to reduce the need for frequent drainage. Hisense also highlights silent operation and multiple fan speeds on the Portable-G range.
Hisense portable AC models are a good option for bedrooms, home offices, apartments, and rooms where permanent AC installation isn't practical.
Best for: Home users looking for convenient, multi-function portable cooling.
2. Nobel Portable Air Conditioner – Practical Cooling for UAE Homes
Nobel offers portable air conditioners designed for users who want a compact cooling solution. Its product catalogue includes models such as the NPAC12C, a 12,000 BTU, 1-ton portable AC using R410A refrigerant and designed for T3 climatic conditions. The catalogue also lists a smaller NPAC9000, rated at 9,000 BTU.
The Nobel NPAC12C includes features such as a centrifugal fan assembly, water tank, wide oscillation, handle, and portable design. The smaller NPAC9000 is specified with a rotary compressor, LED display, and air circulation of 350 m³/h.
The availability of different capacities makes Nobel interesting for customers who want to match the AC to their room size rather than simply choosing the largest unit.
Best for: Bedrooms, smaller rooms, offices, and users seeking straightforward portable cooling.
3. Super General Portable Air Conditioner – Powerful & Feature-Rich
Super General has a particularly broad portable AC selection in the UAE. Its current range includes portable models across different capacities, including 1-ton, 1.5-ton, and larger options.
One standout example is the SGP184T3, an 18,000 BTU portable AC. Super General lists it as a 3-in-1 portable AC, providing air conditioning, dehumidification, and fan functions. It also features a 24-hour timer, 100% copper pipes, sleep mode, no-drip technology, super-low-noise operation, and water self-evaporation.
The unit also has four rolling castors, making it easier to move around the home. Super General describes it as suitable for small to medium-sized living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, shops, restaurants, and cafés.
For users who need higher cooling capacity, the brand also offers models such as the SGP204T3, rated at approximately 1.66 tons, with 3-in-1 operation, three fan speeds, dehumidification, sleep mode, and water self-evaporation.
Best for: Users wanting multiple capacities and feature-rich portable cooling.
4. Admiral Portable Air Conditioner – Compact Cooling Solution
Admiral is another brand offering portable air-conditioning solutions for the UAE market. Its Middle East and Africa website lists a 1-ton, 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, model ADPAC12C.
A 12,000 BTU portable AC can be an appropriate choice for smaller and medium-sized spaces, depending on insulation, room layout, ceiling height, sunlight exposure, and other factors.
Admiral's air-conditioning portfolio also emphasizes cooling performance, efficiency, and durability.
Portable Admiral units can be useful for people who don't want to commit to permanent installation or need additional cooling in a particular room.
Best for: Bedrooms, home offices, rental properties, and smaller spaces.
5. Gree Portable Air Conditioner – Flexible Cooling for Different Spaces
Gree is a well-known air-conditioning manufacturer and is another brand to consider when shopping for portable cooling in the UAE. Portable ACs are particularly useful when cooling is needed in individual rooms rather than throughout an entire property.
Gree portable models can be attractive to customers who want the flexibility to move their cooling appliance between rooms. Depending on the model, buyers should compare cooling capacity, operating modes, fan speeds, timer functions, noise levels, refrigerant, and energy specifications.
A key advantage of choosing a portable AC from an established air-conditioning brand is having a product range designed specifically around climate-control requirements.
Gree is therefore worth considering alongside Hisense, Nobel, Super General, and Admiral when comparing portable AC solutions in the UAE.
Best for: Users wanting flexible room cooling from an established AC brand.

How to Choose the Right Portable AC
Before buying, the first thing to consider is cooling capacity. Portable ACs are available in different BTU ratings, and the appropriate capacity depends on room size, insulation, sunlight exposure, ceiling height, and heat-producing appliances.
You should also check whether the unit provides cooling, fan, and dehumidification modes. Features such as a timer, sleep mode, multiple fan speeds, self-evaporation, remote control, and caster wheels can make daily operation much easier.
Most importantly, remember that a portable AC generally needs an exhaust hose connected to an opening such as a window to remove hot air from the room.
For UAE conditions, also check the exact model's T3 climate suitability, energy efficiency, refrigerant, warranty, and local after-sales support.
Final Thoughts
Portable air conditioners are an excellent solution when you need flexible, room-by-room cooling without permanent installation. Hisense stands out for convenient multi-function operation, Nobel offers practical capacity choices, Super General provides a particularly extensive range, Admiral offers compact cooling solutions, and Gree is another established option worth comparing.
For UAE consumers, the best portable AC isn't necessarily the biggest or most powerful model. The ideal choice is the one with the right BTU capacity for your room, suitable climate rating, useful features, manageable noise level, and reliable local support. By comparing these five brands carefully, you can find a portable air conditioner that keeps your space comfortable during the UAE's hottest months.
